PPTP Configuration on Windows Mobile 2003

FIRST, make sure that your wireless card is turned on.

The PPTP setup consists of three parts: connection profile setup, vpn setup, and exceptions setup.

  1. From the Start menu, select the Settings menu item
  2. In the settings menu, go to the Connections tab, and click the Connections icon.
  3. In the connection settings, select the Advanced tab, and click the Select Networks button.

  4. In the “Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:” field, select My ISP. Under the "Program that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:" field, click "New...".

  5. For the new connection profile enter NIU as the name.

  6. Select the VPN tab and click the "New..." button.
  7. Enter NIU in the name field and vpn1.ess.niu.edu in the host name/ip field. Select PPTP for the VPN type, and click the "Next" button.

  8. Enter your NIU user name, and click the "Finish" button.

  9. Click ok to exit the NIU profile settings.
  10. From the network connection setting screen, click the "Exceptions…" button and select “Add new URL…”.
  11. In the Work URL, enter *.*.

  12. Click ok to add the URL and click ok to exit out of the exceptions menu.

  13. Click ok to exit the network management screen.
  14. Click ok to exit out of the connection settings.
  15. Click X to exit out of the settings panel.

Connecting

  1. Click the connection icon on the top of the screen next to the clock.

  2. Click “Connect VPN”.
  3. Enter user name and password, and click the OK button.

  4. Wait for the connection to establish.

  5. Use the internet.
