WPA Troubleshooting

Q: What if the Wireless Networks tab in does not show up in the wireless adapter properties?

A: This is most likely due to additional Wireless software installed. Please remove any Wireless configuration utilities made by Dell, HP, Intel, Linksys, or Netgear. To do this, go to the Control Panel, select add/remove programs, and click remove on the respective programs in the list.

Q
: What if everything in the Wireless Networks tab is 'grayed out'?

A: This is also most likely due to additional Wireless software installed. See "What if the Wireless Networks tab in does not show up in the wireless adapter properties?"

Q
: What if my existing wireless software can't be removed?

A: ITS cannot offer support for all possible wireless connection software. In order to get support from ITS, the built-in operating system software must be used.

Q
: What if everything is still 'grayed out' in the Wireless Networks tab after removing additional wireless software?

A: Ensure that the check box for "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is checked.

Q: What operating systems can connect to WPA?

A: Any operating system and hardware that supports WPA may be used to connect to NIUnet through a wireless connection in the Residence Halls. Due to limited resources, documentation is not currently available from ITS for all operating systems.

Q
: Why is WPA not available as a Network Authentication type?

A :If WPA is not available as an option in the Network Authentication list, the wireless card may not support WPA.
