Wireless and VPN Access
Wireless access customers - this is the only site available until a VPN or WPA session has been started.
An NIU Z-ID / AccountID and password are required to set up a VPN or WPA session. Look up your Z-ID / Account ID at password.niu.edu or call the ITS Helpdesk at 815-753-8100.
Wireless access points use the 802.11b standard. See Wireless Information for instructions on wireless card configuration.
NOTE: NIU VPN Client now supports iPhone and iPod touch.
Configuration
- Wireless in Residence Halls - WPA
- Wireless elsewhere on campus - PPTP (recommended ) or VPN
- Public port (openline) wired connection on campus - PPTP (recommended) or VPN
- Off campus secure connection - PPTP (recommended ) or VPN
- Library database access from off-campus
- Retirees connection to the NIU network
